Text Message Reminders

We are planning to implement an SMS service to confirm and remind you about appointments.

You will need to opt-in to use the service, we will not send you SMS messages simply because we hold your mobile number on file.

Initially, we will use the system simply to issue appointment confirmations and reminders.  In addition, we will use the SMS service to inform you when you need to make an appointment for tests/check-ups etc and to inform you if an appointment has to be cancelled because your Doctor or Nurse is ill.

mobile phone

If we contact you about duplicate SMS numbers...

Sometimes we have the same mobile number attached to several patients, for example when a parent books appointments for a child or when a couple use the same phone.

By Default, our SMS system will block such numbers to protect patient confidentiality.  If a parent/guardian provides consent to contact them by SMS we will be able to apply their consent to all children under 12; however, once a child reaches their 12th Birthday, we will remove SMS consent until the child consents individually.  That is to comply with the law in Scotland.

If you are a couple, sharing a mobile number; or you are the contact for someone over the age of 12, we will be able to enable SMS only on receipt of a consent form for the individual concerned.

How to Register for SMS...

If you wish to register for this messaging service please fill out the consent form.  Once we receive your form, it is a manual process to input a code into your record, so the service will not start immediately.
